Lets record this so we can look back in years to come and see how much we spent on things. I'll start!

I made my first Bitcoin transaction in Melly's Cookie Bar , Amsterdam (https://mellyscookiebar.nl/)

I purchased coffee and cake for 65000 sats and it was an amazing experience.

Most of my sats are spent to upvote sn content and orange pill close circles.

reply

Let the sats flow :)

reply

Pretty much this here. $5 worth to a few close to me throughout my journey, upvoting here, one $5 amazon gift card through Bitrefill when I first started playing with Lightning.

Oh. And thousands of sats to miners with all the willy nilly transactions I've done to my own wallets testing things out.

reply

Sats well spent!

I've bought dinner at Dunston's Steakhouse in Dallas, TX. They accept Bitcoin LN and chain via BTC Pay Server. Even better, I think they actually hold the Bitcoin and understand the mission.

I found it on the website: https://btcmap.org/map

I'm loving this map website for finding places that accept Bitcoin. However, I've found many of the places on it don't actually accept it, so use it with caution.

reply

Yes, btcmap is amazing.

Just unfortunate that there isn't many places accepting sats where i live. :(

reply

close to zero in Aotearoa too

reply

My friend and I use sats to pay each other for restaurant bills. We use it instead of using Splitwise app.

reply

I’ve done this at my first IRL bitcoin meetup 🤙🏽

reply

That is a great idea.

reply

I buy pasture raised eggs at my local meetup for sats.

reply

That is cool. We need more of this!

I've mostly just used Bitrefill to buy gift cards for online purchases while I'm at home. I've done it for Amazon, REI, and most recently paid for my Southwest flight for the Thanksgiving holiday by buying a gift card for the exact amount of the purchase when I'm ready to pay.

For a little while I was trying to use Bitrefill to pay for food purchases when out of the house, but it was too much of a hassle. I mostly pay for stuff like that with cash now. Also I prefer to go to smaller local businesses when I'm eating out rather than big corporate chains.

I recently paid for my VPN with Bitcoin. Unfortunately they do not accept LN payments yet though. I like that I was able to do this without giving them any personal information at all.

Other than that I've made a few donations with Bitcoin to worthy causes.

I've been trying to find a local business that accepts Bitcoin, but have not had any luck. If I could find a taco shop that was convenient that accepts Bitcoin I would go there all the time.

Also almost all spending is followed by an immediate purchase of more Bitcoin so my stack never goes down.

reply

Sounds like you have it dialled.

Can i ask what VPN service you are using? I plan to change mine shortly.

reply

https://mullvad.net/en/. Someone from nostr recommended it to me. Operates out of Sweden.

reply

I exchanged seeds of cannabis, hot peppers and san pedro cacti with Bitcoiners I found on my meetup, Reddit and someone from SN.

I will grow plants and make seeds from them and distribute them through the community next fall!

reply

Sat business is good business.

reply

I'd call it more of a hobby or underground community service or something. But yes

reply

Spent sats tipping podcasters in Fountain.

Also spent sats in the Wikileaks shop to buy a Free Assange t-shirt

reply

Some stickers, on-demand 3D prints, VPN vouchers, Telegram & SN tips.

There are some bars in a few towns near me on btcmap I’m going to check out soon.

Big on spend and replace as often as I can in 2023 and orangepilling independent business owners.

reply

Glad to hear this.

Spend and replace is the way to go!

reply

Clothing, computer hardware. Good thing I don't have a direct way to buy guitars & amps with sats, or I’d be in real trouble!

reply

Hahahaha.

Like your style.

reply

some tipping and such on a few platforms, maybe 15k sats total, local ..organic produce.. delivery, around 1.5m.

reply

I've only used it for tipping jb55 right now for his work on Damus 🤣

reply

He is on fire at the moment, he deserves every sat he can get.

reply

I buy farm fresh eggs from a tiny chicken farm near by. They like to denominate in USD so my sat price fluctuates but it's been 44-61k sats per dozen! An egregious amount, I know, but someone who would never have been self custodying now is and also the man (it's a couple) loses a lot of money per year at the local poker game so there is some balance there.

reply

Wow, you are the second person to mention buying local eggs with sats.

Farmers are satoshi.

reply

Hi, I don't spend my sats, I pay in fiat, I only stack the sats.

reply

I have been stacking since 2017 but i believe we need to start using the network to help push adoption.

I have a hot wallet on my phone with approx $50 of sats that i just top up.

Savings stay in cold storage.

reply

spending is good, actually ;)

reply

I haven't spend my sats, I'm still stacking

reply

I have been doing the same, not a bad strategy however i do think it helps the Bitcoin ecosystem to use the network where possible to help grow adoption.

reply

I spend sats tipping the fine folks here, of course!

reply

Haha, not put to waste!

This is my first post on stacker.

reply

I've bought a t-shirt from https://lightning.store and it was around $30

$30

SN feature request: USD/fiat-to-sats auto-converter!

reply

So far only person to person payment for services. I try and use it when I can if the other party is open to it.

reply

Orange pill friends. Bought a book from Konsensus Network.

reply

I bought my entire steam library of joltfun.

reply

I coordinate several people and we buy beef (whole beef) from Jason Wrich (@beefbeesbitcoin) a few times a year, and we pay in Bitcoin. It's on-chain given the size of the transaction though.

reply

Proof of steak, i like it.

reply

I'm tipping content I learn from mostly on value-for-value platforms

reply

Just incase someone is looking for a cool place online to spend sats, take a look at https://lightning.store/.

I love the Nirvana/Satoshi tee.

reply

I only spend fiat, I save in Sats

I sent my buddy 7000 sats so we can split a whole pizza

Bought beer in Bitcoin Valley (Rovereto, northern Italy) with 20% discount.

They accepted my 0-conf transaction as payment using some purple app.

Later we dined at a somewhat expensive restaurant and they also, surpsisingly, took 0-conf as payment (this was before LN was generally used).

reply

Beer and Bitcoin is a good combo.

Still need to buy a beer with sats but looking forward to the experience.

reply

Most of the sats I earn in Stacker News and Add Slice, goes to content creator whose use ALBY address.

reply

I spend sats on tipping people. I don’t really feel comfortable spending Bitcoin at all. Do you repurchase the sats you spend? I hope you do.
