Why is it so annoying that you can choose another software besides Core? Why does the choice have to be justified?
I don't have to explain my choice, I run the software I want because I can.
If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry...
Freedom whether you like it or not.
And about fee estimation, do you know what RBF is??
It's not annoying. Users are free to run any software they like.
People can run Knots, then some more Knots, then more Knots and so on and so forth...
It doesn't stop the spam from being propagated around the network, and it doesn't stop the spam from reaching miners.
Some miners won't mine it out of principle.
Some will, at least to maximize fee revenue.
The argument I do hear from knots-advocates... is that they need the entire network to run Knots or at least similar filters to them. Just 'some people' running Knots isn't sufficient for them.
So when an insufficient % of people run knots (let's say below 90% of the network) they complain. And complain a lot.
And even if somehow over 90% of the network were to 'switch to knots' it's not convincing to me it would stop the spam. The spammers can and would just use their own nodes with default settings and the transactions would end up getting to miners anyway. Just like the sub 1-sat/vbyte transactions... are 'getting through' despite the vast majority of the network filtering them by default.
So what happens then? Knots advocates will want a soft fork or hard fork to 'fix the spam'. They won't get consensus for it, and there will be a chain split.
Bitcoin Core (Bitcoin as it is today) vs Bitcoin Knots (Bitcoin mempools purified).
This stuff isn't that hard to predict imo

At this point running knots does not seek to stop spam, it is a message and it is very clear "you are not going to do what you want with our money"

Antics do not help in this situation. Bitcoiners should look at the issue impartially and critically, not listening to influencers or some social-media people.

If we are running Knots is because we are critical, the followers will install Core and do not care.
Those of us who do not accept any change are critics, we read github, mail list, etc we study and absorb all the information on either side and this allows us to establish a judgment.
Enough of relating knots with ignorant manipulated by some influencer, that accusation denotes attempt to manipulate.

I am critical also but I don't think knots is the answer

I also do not believe that Knots is the solution and I hate having to use it but it is a way of showing my discontent with the direction that Core is taking.

I understand that completely.
