They say that AI, quantum computing, and fusion reactors will change the course of human history. Tons of government funding has gone into those areas of research, but most of what they've delivered are toys (e.g. ChatGPT, fusors) or have very narrow use-cases (e.g. DART, D-Wave).
By comparison, Bitcoin was created without government funding and it has already changed the course of human history. If things go well, Bitcoin will improve the human condition for centuries to come. ChatGPT will be forgotten in a year or so.

. биткоин сможет докозать что то большее, чем глобальный проект без финансирования цб. биткоин использует случайное число. а это для теории Энштейна губительно. вот тут мы и узнаем кто был проплачкм а кто развивался естественно.

Friendly reminder that g2a support paying with btc and they some pretty good deals rn. FIor example u can get win 10 pro for 18 dollars and it can be upgraded to win 11 for free. Anyway they've supported btc payments for a while so it may be worth checking them out

Hello gang!! Sorry for the late reply, was totally passed out, some well deserved rest was needed, well today after my hot cup of Java and some cereal, gonna head over to do some Christmas shopping and see how it goes, I'm officially on holidays so it's going to be weird not having the kids running around the classroom... I've pretty much gotten rid of all social media, but do miss some of the news that I would get from twitter. Is there anyone on nostr that is worth following and spews facts vs. opinions?

Podcasts are really the best way at this point where you don't have to deal with the insanity social media brings, but you also don't have to read corporate stuff. If you want text based stuff I'm not sure what to tell you, although SN is pretty useful for that.
If you want to switch to podcast based news there are a couple I would recommend, although some of them are pretty US-centric bc that's just where I live. Cato Daily Podcast is great for general politics and economics stuff. Fed Watch Macro is great for Bitcoin news and macro-econ. If you are into tech I would also recommend Linux Action News. The last two are Value4Value so that you can tip them in sats, which is pretty cool.
Hopefully that's helpful, sorry if it wasn't though

My Embassy Pro synced bitcoin core overnight, much faster than I anticipated! What a difference upgrading from 75Mbs to 800Mbps. Reminds me of when I lived in California over ten years ago and had fiber to the home with gig speeds. And this is over coaxial cable in my 55+ year old condominium unit. Having experienced such hobbled internet for a decade, I find myself surprised and at a loss with what to do with it. Oh well.
Other than prepping for Saturday Night LIT podcast (8:30pm ET), I will continue my exploration of Ubuntu, trying to learn more about the command prompt. And also finish out another video in Pleb Dev Course I. Hope everyone has a good day. I'm still sick at home. Going to do the podcast remote for the first time, which may spell the last time we ever did it in person, as remotely will certainly be more convenient in many ways

by command prompt I meant terminal.

Discovered nostr last night. Wonderfully chaotic. I feel like I've seen the future, and bitcoin will be the rails. Anyone else taken the dive recently?

I still don't understand it. I mentioned it in another post, but I felt like I was command-line LARPing in Neuromancer.
Maybe I am approaching it the wrong way? What is the easiest way for a new person to engage with it? What even is it?

Caveat. I have about one day's experience with nostr. I am no expert. It is a framework upon which clients can be built. You can "log in" to any with your own keys, create many profiles with new keys, or don't "log in" at all. To date, I have found clients that mimic Twitter and reddit, and some clients include a lightning wallet with your keys. It's pretty primitive right now, but Jack Dorsey's development donation has created excitement. Decentralized commerce through lightning seems inevitable down the road.

What is an example of the twitter type interface please?

Ahh I see we are still early. I still have no idea what any of this stuff means. I hope it becomes a lot easier to engage with from UX side if they hope to get broad appeal, otherwise it feels just like Tildeverse / Mastadon.
reply
I agree. It's very early. Why I'm hopeful is because nostr is really just a decentralized framework upon which anything can be built.
