I for one am relieved to see AI progress finally plateauing... seems like things have progressing at warp speed lately it's scary.

My copy of The Children of the Sky got lost in the mail so I’m reading Walkaway by Doctorow on @itsrealfake’s recommendation and it’s superb.

I'm impressed you've stuck with the Vernor Vinge kick for so long. Fire Upon the Deep was fun, but took me two tries.

I tore though Fire Upon the Deep. If I had skipped the prologue, which hooked me hard, I probably would've bailed though.
I already have all the context loaded, a kind of sunk cost, and I enjoyed the first two books a lot, so I want to finish the series. The third book was printed in low volumes apparently.

@grayruby Waymo in Santa Monica is more expensive than Lyft Black car
I thought about taking Waymo then compared to Lyft which was cheaper at the time
I have also experimented with Lyft black. Drivers are more professional and cars are cleaner
reply
I haven't tried Waymo but my wife has. She told me it's pretty much the same price as Uber. You'd think robotaxis would be cheaper, due to lower operating costs. Could people actually prefer robotaxis to human drivers?

I’ve come to the realization Waymo’s are only good after midnight. Chances of getting a crazy person are very high. Regular drivers are better during the day. Chances of getting a crazy person are very low.

Did she have to share or carpool?
That’s the part confused me

No, non-shared Waymo compared to non-shared Uber

For me it was one of those, 'great trailer, I'm in, now I don't want to see another frame until I'm in the goddam theater.'

I received the first shipment of my book this week 👀
"A Stoic Resurrection" is a collection of thoughts and reflections drawn straight from the journal of a modern man trying to make sense of his life, purpose, and place in the world. Covering topics from spirituality and love to economics and motivation, it explores the full range of human experience — or at least as much as one can encounter and meditate upon over a two-year period.
I will be in Riga attending the Baltic Honeybadger 2025 this weekend, so if anyone who's there is interested in acquiring a copy or two, feel free to hit me up. 20 € / book. You can also already order it via Amazon, direct sales via Kontext Store of Value will be available soon, as well as a free / Name Your Price .PDF version via SATOSH.EE

Congratulations on the book! It looks nice. I had a little stoic phase many years ago, but lately I've been thinking about it a bit more. You're book might be just the ticket to dip back in.

Thanks! Yeah give it a go and I'd love to hear your thoughts! There's a few caveats tho:
  1. It's basically a collection of short-to-medium form thoughts I've had over the past few years, most of which I've already posted on SN Saloon, nostr & X one by one - so in case you've been following my account(s) you may find that you've read most of it before...
  2. I don't know what exactly "100% pure stoicism" is, and the ideas presented in the book also definitely veer into existentialism, romanticism, libertarianism, spirituality... the "Economics & Entrepreneurship" section is, for example, mostly about Bitcoin, lol. But I also didn't want to call it just "philosophy" or "Kontext's philosophy" so that literally no one would have any idea what to expect from the book. I think out of all the -ism's, stoicism has spoken to me the most and is what most of my ideas align most closely to
I can give you a heads up once I've uploaded the pdf version as well so you can have a peek at it before committing any sats towards the physical thing :)

I somehow got roped in into leading the community singing for this year’s National Day celebration. I don’t particularly care for any of the patriotic songs released in recent years, but having to sing them in front of a super electrified and enthusiastic crowd did make it kinda fun. Before long, I was shedding my inhibitions and - what’s the word Gen Alpha kids use these days? oh yes - vibing with the audience. I can only hope that they found me aura.
