I am very pleased to announce emeralize !

🔥emeralize is where creators earn and where learning is rewarded.

🔥It’s like Substack x Udemy x meets Lightning Network (#Bitcoin).

I founded and built emeralize because I believe there is a better way. I want to obsolete the old legacy education model and build a new model.

emeralize's mission is to help individuals become the best versions of themselves and do what they love.

emeralize is an e-learning platform and marketplace for content. We use bitcoin as money since it's near instant and easier to transfer globally, even in tiny amounts. And if you ever want to convert it to your local currency, there are plenty of ways.

For those who don't know this about me, I am an autodidact. I taught myself using Massive Open Online Courses, ebooks, audiobooks, and free resources online. I dropped out of school when I was 14 years old because the quality of education in my area was crap and I was bored out of my mind. I focused on private game servers, databases, web apps, and esports instead. The internet opened a world of possibility where as public edu offered violence and boredom.

I want learning to be about passion, interest, and growth with respect to what the LEARNER is interested is in. It should be very much so self-guided and explorative. Following my critical path I realized there were a number of things online education such as MOOCs did incredibly well and things that it didn't.

Udemy currently exclude many users due to the fact that their currency may not be supported. This keeps users out. #Bitcoin is global money and fixes this.

For example, if someone in India who has Rupees wants to buy a resource like a course priced in USD, they cannot complete the transaction or if they have a card that supports this (few in India do), the learner will pay a foreign transaction fee. Moreover, the platform will pay 3% + 30 cents, which on a $1 transaction is 33% fee. We can do this instead for 2% or a minimal of 2 sats, no matter the cost of the resource, even fractions of a cent. Lastly, Massive Open Online Courses like those on Udemy, have very low completion rates, which we plan to solve with an incentive or reward of small amounts of bitcoin to increase retention, engagement, and completion rates.

I believe the legacy education system is failing us with many students incurring massive amounts of debt, underemployed, indoctrinated, and in many cases not learning practical skills.
YouTube has high barrier to entries and other platforms like Udemy have high platform fees.

I built emeralize with the hopes to lower the barrier to entry to earn off of educational content, enable new forms of monetization, increase affordability and inclusivity, and reward learning.

We will officially open the beta & platform for everyone on January 3rd, 2023.

It's a cool idea! It's a content based business though.. Bootstrapping quality content might be an issue. I hope we see you succeed! and congrats on launching the site!

btw: www subdomain seems broken

reply

Ah, yes, thank you for flagging the issue with the www. I'll look into that.

As far as quality content goes, I hope to help solve that with this announcement by getting quality creators signed-up first and courses added :D.

Matthew Kratter has asked in a recent video about ways to move his educational platform to the bitcoin standard. You might reach out to him.

www subdomain is broken (400 error)

reply

Ah, thank you. Sorry about that. I'll fix it.

reply

It is still down.

Every investment and idea around learning are welcomed because has the potential to make the people happier and the world a better place, so congratulations for your new project!

Courses like those on Udemy, have very low completion rates, which we plan to solve with an incentive or reward of small amounts of bitcoin to increase retention, engagement, and completion rates.

I think this could be as important a key factor as the access to a payment medium.

reply

Thank you. That is entirely my aim.

I agree. We have seen great success with regard to engagement and retention at ZEBEDEE as it relates to bitcoin in games. I hope the same outcome happens for learning with emeralize. Cheers!

The Bitcoin lightning network is a second-layer solution that aims to improve the scalability of the Bitcoin network. It allows for the creation of payment channels between participating nodes, enabling them to transact directly with each other without the need to broadcast every transaction to the blockchain. This can significantly reduce transaction fees and improve transaction speeds.

One of the main advantages of the lightning network is that it can potentially allow for a much higher volume of transactions to be processed on the Bitcoin network, making it more suitable for everyday use as a currency. This could also make it more attractive to merchants and businesses who may be hesitant to accept Bitcoin due to its high transaction fees and slow confirmation times.

Another advantage of the lightning network is that it allows for the creation of off-chain transactions, which are not recorded on the blockchain. This can provide a degree of privacy and security for users, since their transactions are not publicly visible on the blockchain.

However, there are also some drawbacks to the lightning network. One of the main concerns is that it is still relatively new and untested, and there is a possibility that it could suffer from technical issues or security vulnerabilities. Additionally, the lightning network requires a certain level of technical expertise to set up and use, which may limit its accessibility to some users.

Overall, the lightning network has the potential to improve the scalability and usability of the Bitcoin RD++. However, it is still a work in progress and its effectiveness and security will need to be carefully monitored.

Might I suggest you add a link to the site?

That would be helpful! Hahaha. Sorry about that. emeralize.com to request early creator access.

Exciting! Innovative! Bigly!

Link?

If you don't mind me asking: what is your strategy for growth? will you start with courses related to bitcoin and lightning, since this is probably the most accessible userbase? do you have plans to onboard nocoiners? if so How will you get them to use Bitcoin/LN? I'm asking this not being a sceptic, but I see that people still have a pretty high barrier to entry, they have to download apps aquire Sats, and at least understand somewhat what Bitcoin is before their willing/able to start using it.

In your case, you mentioned earning sats by completing courses, maybe it's a viable way to airdrop some sats to first time users via free courses? Seems like a decent way to onboard someone. The course could even be 'How to use a LN wallet'
Probably also easy to abuse though...

Or what do you think?
