when you have a task that requires some creative thinking1 what is your optimal time-window?

mine is fridays because of my work schedule; other days, i find i get the best creative renderings oozing out after lunch (1-3pm).

Footnotes

  1. some examples of tasks requiring creative thinking: you are building something and reach an impasse; you are generating ideas for a new product, podcast, video or promotional campaign; you are writing (a novel, lecture, lesson-plan, poetry, a long-form post on sn/nostr); you are making art; you are prompting ai to help you solve a novel problem; you are planning a vacation/journey.
Mornings, after coffee+red bull, every day excepts Sundays because Saturday night I often allow myself a drink. I spend this time on coding (less often) or tackling big code reviews (too often) Tue-Sat, and on Monday I now work on the AI weekly post (=browse/read a week worth of SN posts) during that time.

i usually grant myself selfish, productive, creative time when i've taken care of immediate obligations. in any given chunk of time, whether a day or a week, i front load with Work. then once I'm satisfactorily free of Work, I give myself what is left over.
so on any given day, that's the last few hours of the work day. on any given week, that's thursday and friday.

its probably a good idea to take care of the work first. TIL you dabbled in painting before finding programming!

Every day, especially during or after a nice meal.
reply
during! you must be a great multi-tasker! after meals is when ideas come to me too. but sometimes a solid fast is needed to purify the mind.
reply
Whenever the ideas wash over me — usually when put in that stage by reading, listening to podcasts, or out walking.
Right after (late) breakfast, or late at night, after dinner and when everything is quiet/nobody interrupt me

reading, listening to podcasts, or out walking.
all great creative fuel i can relate to. not being interrupted, having some sacred time alone, is a key ingredient.

Sitting down and closing my eyes (meditation style) for a few minutes always leads to good things.

New products like new websites becomes boring after some period because if you host multiple sites it will be a very boring task.
