We see ourselves more as a fintech than a gaming company. What we build is essentially payments infrastructure on top of Lightning. And then UX tailored to gaming on top of that - both on the B2B and B2C side.So our thing is basically moving money in a seamless way that feels very native to gaming.
Competitors would be other payment service providers, crypto or fiat. People sometimes lump us in with "blockchain gaming" or gaming NFTs, but that's a different thing to what we do.
Apparently, the Biblical name Zebedee means "gift of god". But actually, we're named after a freaky cartoon our CEO watched when he was a kid in the UK.
It's pronounced like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7aa-kLA3j4
I don't know, I don't think they're filtered. I guess Product Hunt is a platform where your fans come to support you and new people find you. It would be kind of weird for someone to seek us out on Product Hunt to give us shit. I mean, they'd have to be pretty pissed :D
I'm sure there will be some salty comments before it's all said and done.
One day, friend, one day.
NY has the BitLicense, which is basically the trickiest cryptocurrency-related license to get. We'll get there, but it'll take a while.
Everywhere. And Bitcoin will take its rightful place as the omnipresent native money of the internet.
Yes, but you have to talk to us first. Go to our Discord and ask our admins.
These aren't BTC-focused games. It's normal games from non-crypto-related studios that decide to implement Bitcoin rewards because it improves their retention and monetization KPIs. If they could do it with USD, they would. But they can't, because it's shit money. Bitcoin is the best money, especially for this specific use case (sending tiny tiny amounts of money to anyone in the world instantly through a game).
Most studios live on ZEBEDEE right now are indies that had games that didn't perform well, so they added Bitcoin-powered player rewards. And wouldn't you know it, the games got massively more profitable and successful!
In a nutshell:
Onboard many more games devs (we've beefed up our sales team recently to help with that)
Expand outside gaming into similar apps - Fountain being an example of a partner we're super excited about going live with ZEBEDEE soon (and you only heard it here, don't leak this info, lol)
Also worth noting: games have long development cycles. There's much more already in the works behind the scenes at ZEBEDEE than may seem ;)
Thanks, we think it's pretty big too :D
Have you tried it? Best ever onboarding experience for a no-coiner...
We are in touch with a huge number of gaming companies, including some pretty big ones. For most of the bigger companies (I don't think anyone in gaming is truly a corporation), it's a bit too early. They are interested, but want to sit on the sidelines a bit and wait to see what happens.
The whole NFT/web3 thing that unfolded over the past year and a half didn't exactly help with trust towards crypto, but we're doing our part to slowly but surely spread awareness of how Bitcoin is different.
Also, talking big names, while we can't say much about ongoing partner talks, we can say that Square Enix is an investor in us and we have our first title with them live in India (so far, India only and it's a mobile game. Sry, Final Fantasy fans will have to wait a bit longer)
For these truly big dogs, integrating is probably a couple years out, barring a massive bull market (which always changes the sentiment towards all Bitcoin businesses massively). We are in contact with them and many other titans of the gaming industry, but at this stage it's more about letting them know we exist and getting their permission to keep them updated when we have interesting things to share. They are all keeping an eye on Bitcoin/crypto as they are aware they will have to get into it sooner or later, but the bigger they are, the more they tend to lean towards later. Which is understandable, because it is a risk for them and risk isn't something you like when you have shareholders and boards of directors to answer to for every stock dip.
The best way is to integrate with ZEBEDEE, of course! I've quickly checked out your games and I think BTC integration would be a great fit! Especially the horse racing ones, where you could do stuff like buy and sell horses for sats.
Please note though that BTC payments for in-app purchases are a bit tricky - the app stores won't like it, especially Apple. You can do it, but not as simply as "traditional" IAP. At the moment, Apple will only allow third party payments for IAP (which includes BTC) through a separate web view. This means your game would have to launch a web page where the player completes the purchase, then returns to the game. A bit of a hassle, which is why BTC is currently mostly used for in-game mechanics like rewards or P2P interactions, not IAP in the traditional sense.
Thanks for the compliment, and that's actually a pretty cool idea. We do have a product for streamers (ZBD Streamer), but that's just for live video. Streamer will be getting some cool new features soon, maybe the next step is to create a "non-live" mode that does something like you suggested! No promises, just like the idea.
Not a bad idea, but not something we'd do ourselves. If that's a project you'd want to work on, we'd support you though!
To my knowledge, no one is making a BTC chess game on our platform right now. What people build on ZEBEDEE really isn't up to us though and the games we make ourselves are really just for experimentation and showcases, so no chess :D
