I just installed StartOS on a very cheap second-hand Lenovo Thinkcentre. Not a laptop but it works like a charm. Just make sure to have at least a 2 TB hard drive and a 16+ GB RAM.
My Umbrel has been acting up too since I installed Knots + Datum. I guess the recent attacks on Knots data limits could be a reason too.
