Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. Every year, millions of metric tons of plastic waste are produced globally, and a significant portion ends up in our oceans. These plastics, ranging from single-use items to discarded fishing nets, contribute to the creation of massive plastic islands in the ocean, including the infamous Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch, which is three times the size of France. Research by Lourens J.J. Meijer and colleagues has revealed alarming statistics about the countries contributing the most to ocean plastic pollution. While larger plastic producers like China are often seen as the primary culprits, the situation is more complex. Smaller countries with long coastlines, heavy rainfall, and inadequate waste management systems contribute disproportionately to ocean plastic pollution.
I believe it is a mix of factors, but for me the main culprit is the State that fails to have basic sanitation coverage for everyone

The State's failure definitely plays a major role in environmental damage.

Didn't expect the no 1 where is us though

Rich western countries sell their trash to poor southeast asian countries. Southeast asian countries can't actually mine the trash and keep it in landfills instead. Every time a small storm hits some stuff from landfills gets loose.
It's our trash.

Always felt funny about this.

The pollution of both the oceans and animal habitats is the responsibility of large industries and the unconsciousness of consumers. It is incredible to know that human beings are the only beings that self-destruct their own ecosystem or planet.
reply
True! It's heartbreaking, it's like we're digging our own grave without realizing the consequences.

There is no better way to describe it than how you have said it, I hope we become aware and improve this world that is already chaos.
